Durwood - John Walter & Sons - Canada

Vintage Durwood Home

We get pretty excited around here at Late Boomer Vintage when we find a gorgeous piece of vintage Durwood and we don't thrift score often on these rarely seen extraordinary examples of fine craftsmanship. Heavy cast composite resin + wood fiber, beautifully made original designs with Euro style and boho fabulousness!!
Durwood pieces are not signed, but will sometimes still have the stamped gold foil or paper label affixed to the back.

For unlabeled mirrors, an easily recognizable feature of Durwood mirrors is the extra thick glass.
A Canadian Story
John Walter & Sons, furniture ornaments works began in Kitchener, Ontario in the early 20th century, est around 1912. The city charter leaders wanted to bring additional resources, factories and jobs to the area.

Expanding from wood fibre ornamentation for furniture and decor in the 1920s to producing gorgeous mirrors and wall sconces in the 1940s to 1960s. Adding other home decor items, such as the doggie towel rack (photo above) and Canada centric souvenir items in the 1970s and 1980s. From our research, Durwood Products Limited ceased operations in the mid 1980s.
