As we get back out there for more thrifting adventures with many thrift shops now open, things have changed dramatically. Here are Late Boomer Vintage 5 top tips of best practices to help rescue your budget and stay safe.
1) Cleanliness!
Wear your mask (most areas have a mask mandate now anyway) and have your clean hands kit. Our ideal go to for clean hands are baby wipes for dirt and a spray bottle of 70% rubbing alcohol for germ killing properties. A small bottle of hand sanitizer in your purse is a great addition for hand sanitizing inside the shop.
2) Patience!
As stores reopen with physical distancing requirements, expect a waiting line to enter your favourite thrift shop and longer checkout lines.
3) Limitations!
Establish time limits and shop during the week when there are less people. It's easy to get distracted with overwhelm, so give yourself a 30 to 45 minute time limit per store.
4) Discounts!
Expect higher prices and shop on discount days. We are seeing price increases in many of our favourite thrift shops and we make sure to shop on special discount days for the best value. Many thrift shops offer a discount coupon when you donate, so clear out to stock up.
5) Discipline!
Budget wisely and be meticulous with your purchases before hitting the cash register. If you're reselling, ask yourself whether you: really want to ship this, will it sell, any flaws. It's perfectly okay to put it in your basket and change your mind at the register.
